What is citation chaining, citation tracking, or citation linking and how do I do it?

These terms are used fairly interchangeably. There are two kinds of citation chaining - forwards & backwards. Backwards is tracking a source you already have "backwards" in time. Forwards is tracking other sources that have also cited the source you have since it was published, thus you're moving "forwards" through time.
