Whenever you find a citation or abstract, whether in a database or a list of sources from another source, you can usually get access to that item by following these steps.

  1. Check the library holdings for the journal it was published in. On the library's website, click the tab in the discovery search titled "Journals." This will only search for the journal title and whether or not the library has access to it through a database and what years we have access to from that title. If you get no results or we do not have coverage for the date of your article, please continue on.
  2. Search Google Scholar to see if its freely available on the web. Enter the articles title with "quotes" around it into the Scholar search. Some of the library's databases link to Scholar showing you full text results from the library, but only about 50% of our content works this way. If you get no full text access or only find results where they are asking for a fee, please proceed to step 3. You do not need to pay for access while you're a student at Morningside. The HJF Library takes care of any access fees associated but we do NOT reimburse students for doing so on their own.
  3. Go to the library's website and enter the article title in the discovery search either under the "Everything" tab or the "Articles" tab. Once you see results, please look to the left to click the "Libraries Worldwide" option under "Library." When you see the item you're looking for, click on it and click the red "Request Item Through Interlibrary Loan" button and fill out the form.
