The first thing when you are going anywhere is to have a road map. Here is the basic road map for doing research in a step-by-step method.

  1. Develop a topic by learning the background information and identifying keywords to use later.
  2. Find information by searching the library's databases and web.
  3. Evaluate the information you find using the CRAAP test to make sure it is relevant and appropriate for your research.
  4. Create your own part of the conversation by writing your paper or whatever method you are using to present the information and/or argument you've been researching and creating.
  5. Cite the information you are using in your own creation.
